School security: Are North Jersey schools prepared for 'active shooter' situations? School district Assistant Superintendent Jeanne Howe referenced the two incidents in a district website post Tuesday, advising "at least one student made reference to a school shooting." He was investigated for threats made via electronic communications against Jefferson schools and students. The second incident was reported Friday and involved a 13-year-old Jefferson Township Middle School student who was charged with cyber-harassment and creating a false public alarm. He was investigated for implied threats against Jefferson schools and students. The first, reported last Thursday, involved a 14-year-old Jefferson Township High School student who was eventually charged with disorderly conduct. JEFFERSON - Two separate incidents involving possible security threats to schools and students were investigated last week, and even though police found "no credible threat," existed, two young teens were charged. This demonstrates that our students exhibit and have been recognized for their positive behaviors.Watch Video: NeverAgain Rally: Marjory Stoneman Douglas students speak at Capitol It should also be noted that the student-athletes of Jefferson Township High School have been awarded seven sportsmanship banners by the NJSIAA. I encourage you to research Project Stay Gold to witness what our student body actually stands for.

I have been a part of and have witnessed the students of Jefferson Township participate in many programs and activities to make the world a better place. Jefferson Township High School has over 1,000 students and to admonish all of them, for the actions of one or a group, is unfortunate. Unfortunately, the actions of a few have now tarnished the reputation of an outstanding student body, school, and community and for that, I am very sorry. It is the district’s and parents’ responsibility to teach our students to accept the differences of their peers, to show appreciation of others, and to demonstrate good sportsmanship.

Like every school or community, our community is comprised of many different and unique individuals.
